Historical holiday heat

Now Thomas has come back to London, determined to win back his beloved. But Alexander is not the happy young man Thomas once knew. Will he be able to thaw the wall of ice Alexander has constructed around his heart?
MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME is a heartbreaking and heartwarming historical romance. Author Ava March shows Alexander and Thomas in love at nineteen and makes it understandable why Thomas ran away and why Alexander is bitter about it. Both men captured my heart, and I could not stop reading their story because I felt like these two deserved to be happy. The only thing I could wish for to make MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME the perfect story was a bit more information at the end. Given the historical setting, I did want to know how Alexander and Thomas would manage to make a life together work. Still, I loved this romance.

Alexander and Thomas are two young men living their first love, but while Alexander is comfortable with his sexuality, Thomas still thinks his feelings toward men are a sin and an aberration. When he is with Alexander, nothing seems more right, but when he is faced with their first time, he panics and abandons Alexander. It takes Thomas four years to gather up his courage to face Alexander again.
It took me a while to warm up to the characters. Alexander was too pushy and needy at the beginning, and Thomas was too passive and aloof. I know it was supposed to be that way, because it reflects the stages they were in in that moment, but I've read other books by Ava March where the characters were not together at the right time, where their encounters couldn't be fulfilling because of internal or external problems, and they were more gripping and heart-wrenching than those in this book. It was as if I couldn't find their passion.
It was good, but I think with less sex and more introspection it could have been even better.

Astonishing!

Of all March's works, this is actually my favorite (even before her longer novels). The level of emotion and real character she managed to put into such a small space is amazing. The scene in which Alexander is abandoned in the middle of the night is gut wrenching, but makes the final HEA even sweeter.
