Johnny isn't bad

I read the fourth book in the Cade Creek with much anticipation. Unfortunately I did not enjoy it as much as I did the third book, Fireman's Flame. I kept hoping it would get better and it seemed to often, but then it would revert back to a subpare story. I adore Stormy Glenn but sometimes I don't like a story. This was one of those instances.

The story seemed to jump around. It seemed the MCs challenges were manufactured. Things happened just to make the story appear to be interesting and exciting. Part of my disappointment is that I enjoyed the previous book in the series so much. I wanted to like this story more, but I didn't. I had been looking forward to Jonny and Russ story only not as it was written.

The initial premise that the farmer didn't know what the paramedic did was a bridge too far for me, someone who loves male pregnancy stories. The two men lived in the same house. Each shared a close relationship with the "married" couple in the house. I imagine dinners were eaten together, just what was discussed? And I can't see his older brother or his brother's husband allowing the farmer to treat the paramedic the way he did without noticing and/or doing something about it.

Later the rough sex just seemed off kilter especially after all the abuse the paramedic had suffered. I didn't like how the farmer treated his young lover. Also there were quite a few improbables. How was the farmer suddenly able to stay away from his fields so much? How did he go from gruff uncommunicative to talking all the time? Why did Russ the farmer get a tattoo and never show Jimmy? Why was such a big deal made of a tragic crash then nothing more said about it? There was more but you get my drift.

I see that others really enjoyed this story. I'm glad. Often there are books I like better than other people. To each her own. I mostly rate a book by would I read it again. In this case no, but I can still recommend it to others with reservations.

Looking for a May/December romance with a gay man twist? Then the fourth installment in Stormy Glenn’s Cade Creek series just may fit the bill, at least in Russ’s eyes. Russ believes he is too old for Jonny. He refuses to see that the young man who ran to protect his family is older than his years would indicate. He pushes and pushes until finally Jonny has had enough. I adored how Ms. Glenn made Russ choke on crow once he got what he thought he wanted. I mean she wasn’t mean spirited about it but it definitely had her unique twist. And Jonny was willing to take only so much from the man who owned his heart. I loved seeing Jonny gain distance. And Iadored that Jonny didn’t make it easy for Russ to repair the damage he wrought. Being slapped down one time too many put the shoe on the other foot and now Jonny is afraid to give Russ his heart once again. He needed to learn to forgive. He had to learn that love involves taking a chance and courage is embodied in the simple. For meJonny Be Good by Stormy Glenn became a wonderful story about second chances and is well worth reading.

Yay! Jonny & Russ...

Jonny has been drawn to Russ, best friend of his brother’s husband and part-owner of the farm they live on, since he and his brothers and sister came to Cade Creek a year ago. He has come a long way since then, stated and finished school, got a job as a paramedic and starting to overcome the trauma of his abusive stepfather. The only thing that hasn’t changed is his attraction to Russ, but the man has made it pretty clear that he doesn’t want him. After a mind-blowing kiss and subsequent withdrawal from Ross the hot and cold gets too much and Jonny decides to leave the farm and move in with his friend Hank who has a room to let.
Russ has taken one look at Jonny and fallen for the man. But Jonny has been abused by his stepfather and Russ likes his sex rough, as in tying his partner up and spanking him. Best just to stay away. But still, having Jonny leave the farm is tough – but probably best for both of them.

Finally Jonny’s book, I had been waiting for this and it did not disappoint. Entertaining read, hot sex scenes and we get a chance to catch up with some of the characters from the previous books.
