Dissappointed in this Cookbook

I have Enjoy Life's first cookbook, Cookies for Everyone, and it's great. The recipes are easy to follow, don't require any odd ingredients, and most taste yummy. The first cookbook is also more aware of people with corn allergies and actually gives more suggestions to avoid corn products. (Unfortunately, neither book seems to be aware that xanthum gum is an ingredient grown on corn and needs to be avoided by those with corn allergies. An easy fix though. Guar gum is an equal substitute.) I eagerly opened this cookbook to make cupcakes for a birthday, expecting this cookbook to be similar to the first. I closed it, unable to cook from it. So, what's wrong with the second Enjoy Life's cookbook, Cupcakes and Sweet Treats for Everyone!? Almost every recipe in the cookbook uses oatmeal flour. I am surprised that a cookbook that caters to food allergies includes so much oatmeal when those with gluten allergies usually avoid it. I know that my grocery stores don't sell gluten free oatmeal, let alone gluten free oatmeal flour. I feel that I have wasted my money on this cookbook. I have a little guy that can't have oatmeal. Yes, there are a few recipes in the first cookbook that use oatmeal, but not like the 99% of the recipes in the second book. Now I have to find a substitute for oatmeal flour or get rid of this cookbook.

This cook book is amazing! Being dairy free

This cook book is amazing! Being dairy free, gluten free, egg free, or whatever restriction you may have is a hard task. Especially when you have a sweet tooth like I do! I was devastated when the doctor told me I had to go dairy free, but this cook book saved me a lot of disappointments. Not only was it able to make food that I could eat, but the recipes in this book actually taste good! There are a lot of diet restriction cook books out there, and they do not have good recipes in there, but this is a cook book that I will have in my kitchen for many years to come! I highly recommend to anyone who has dietary restrictions, or even someone who is trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle!

My son has multiple allergies, and I really like enjoy life foods, so I knew the cookbook would offer things we could make, the banana muffins are great, my only fault in the book is that they take the same recipe and change the add-ins and call it something else, so there are great basic recipies that you could add lots of add-ins

journal entries, notes, addresses, and seventy thousand letters. Jefferson remains one of the country's most extraordinary figures;

This volume of his works, edited by Adrienne Koch and William Peden, represents many of Jefferson's most important contributions to American political thought. Jefferson the " American Mind"

This study is a wonderful compilation of the life and writings of Thomas Jefferson. The introduction by Koch and Peden of Jefferson's long and fruitful life is rich and complete. Jefferson's greatness shines forth in the pages of this volume. His Anas, Autobiography, Essay of the Anglo Saxon language, Notes on Virginia, And his numerous public papers and letters show the reader the depth of this great man. Koch and Peden clearly admire Jefferon which is a welcome respite from the sad and anti-intellectual deconstructionist philosophy of modern historians. No PC here. A Look into the mind of Jefferson

Because the letters and other writings have been written in the English of Jefferson's time, the book is somewhat difficult to read. I had to read it slowly to take in Jefferson's ideas and feelings. The book includes the Declaration of Independence which spells out the reasons for the American colonies to declare independence from Britain. Jefferson's letters to John Adams are included as well. Adams and Jefferson were long time friends but became disconnected later in their lives. Finally, they make amends close to the end of their lives. There are also letters to a French woman who Jefferson was in love with while he was Ambassador to France. One of the most interesting concepts was Jefferson's idea of the separation of church and state. Jefferson believed that the religion should not intermingle in the affairs of the state. As Ambassador to France, Jefferson learned about the problems of authoritarian rule of a king over the common people. Jefferson was appalled at the poor representation and meager powers of the civilians of France compared to the powers of the King of France. Overall, this book is a good inside look at the ideals, beliefs, and feelings of one of the founding fathers of the United States.

We added this book to our library when I was doing research for a doctoral project on Racism. In one volume, is Jefferson's autobiography, travel journals, essays, biographies of other historical figures, notes and correspondence. It is a wealth of material into a foundation stone personality of our American identity.
Lately Jefferson has drawn fire because of his position on slavery and his philandering activities as a plantation owner. Still, within this volume you can observe the full story historical context provides.
In my favorite passage in connection with the slavery issue he writes,
"And can the liberties of a nation be though secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of thepeople that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever; that considering numbers,nature and natural means only, a revolution of the wheel of fortune, an exchange of situation is among possible events; that it may become probably by supernatural interference! The Almighty has no attribute which can take side with us in such a contest." (Notes on Virginia, Query XVIII; p. 278 Modern Library Edition)
I think every family should have a copy of this volume in their library. It is enlightening, powerful and life changing material.

You will not all be able to log on to the labs at the same time of course but I have yet to have an issue with everyone not being able to get the labs done every week.

This is the best short story I've read in a long, long time. It touched me deeply, I cannot stop thinking about it, and I want more. There's so much I want to say yet I don't want to give anything away. I asked a good friend to read it, too, just so I can talk about it with someone. It's that good. Well-written and fast-paced, it's worth your time.

Great story - about Sylph and self

It has been quite a long time since I have read a piece that was not a classic, but very good nevertheless. Ms. Thomas (RJ Conte) writes with a sensitive, poetic, and inventive pen (or should I say, keyboard). The Lucent Sylph, a creature living on love and dying of too little or too much of it, is a willing slave come to our world (and that of Lucas, the teller of the story) to teach him and us about emotions, love, and life. Her transparent body allows Lucas to see her heart, either purring along with steady love, or greying with hurt and abondonment, or thretening to explode from excess emotion. In one word -BEATIFUL! One little disappointment - the ending is too trivial and too goody-goody for my taste. But suitable endings, good or bad, are notoriously very difficult, especially in a short story genre.

Lucent Sylph, an intoxicating story that grips you from the very beginning

Lucent Sylph, an emotionally intoxicating short story, is still lingering in my mind and soul. RJ Conte has beautifully crafted a piece with strong undercurrents of other-worldly longings and the complexities of emotions in our lives. I could not stop reading once I started. Mrs. Conte gives just enough mysterious allure early on in the story that I had to keep reading to find out more. It's as if there are layers within layers that she is able to peel just at the right time. What a gifted writer she is! For such a short story, this piece packs a punch that is then quickly absorbed into the heart and stays there. This truly is a unique, emotionally deep read that satisfies in so many ways; easily a story line that could become a gripping novel. I highly recommend.

Witty, slick and sensual

Witty dialogue and a snappy pace make Project Virgin a real page turner. I sat here reading the book and imagining author Megan Crane laughing her head off as she wrote it. While there is no doubt that this is one of the wittiest books I've read in a while it is also sex on a stick, slick and carnal and exquisitely sensual.
Project Virgin is a very quick read so there's not a lot of time either for character development or to flesh out the plot yet you really don't get the feeling that this book has been rushed. The story unashamedly takes place over just a few days yet Megan Crane uses clever techniques such as a series of text messages to progress what is essentially a meeting of virtual strangers into a dinner date and a night of explosive sex.
The nice twist is that for Damon and Scottie, against the odds it seems that there just might be something more than sex. "I'm not a plumber," says Damon.

This is a short and sexy story. The characters are feisty and the romance is red hot. I loved the interaction between these two as well as the snappy dialogue. I enjoyed this passionate romance.

Not My Cup of Tea But Good Writing

I actually didn't like the heroine very much. She's a little too ditzy and a little too accepting of all of the hero's "commands". I thought there would be more of a slow build-up and a little more romance before they started on the "de-virgining." ;)

This wasn't my cup of tea, but the writing was good, so it might appeal to others.

A beautiful and well-told history of the craft of perfume

I had no idea I was getting such a magnificent volume. There is everything to love about "The Essence of Perfume." It can be a coffee table book to peruse casually. The photography of the classic bottles and advertising is a delight to the eye. Some of the short descriptions of fragrances make for quick reads. Or else you can dig into the "meat" of the book -- the history of the fragrance houses, the crafts persons that created the perfumes, the structure of the various scents, and the luminaries associated with the scent or the brand. Both an artistic and scholarly achievement. And it is all splendidly and elegantly presented. It's a "keeper," and I'm delighted to add it to my library.

A treasure of a book!

Wow! This is probably the most visually gorgeous book I own (and I collect beautiful books on fragrance and perfume). Even though I dearly love my Kindles, I did order this as a hardback book, and I am so glad I did. The extravagant beauty of the art and photography and the feel of the pages create an experience that is alone well worth the price of the book. That said, "The Essence of Perfume" is also a fabulous read.
I highly recommend this to anyone who loves fragrance - buy the hardback. You won't regret it!

From a Master of Perfume

Roja Dove's splendid take on perfumery, its methods, history and mystery, is as precious to me as the perfumes I own, now that scent has become a passion second only to the novels I write. The book is equally resplendent with information to feed a perfumista's/o's mind and glorious photos for our eyes to feast upon. It begins with an explanation of smell itself, goes on to describe how perfume notes are extracted from flower, citrus, resin, etc., includes a sumptuous glossary of raw materials and explains the key aspects of perfumery. Then the history starts of great perfumes and their perfumers--stories from the birth of modern perfumery up to today--and ends with the ones Roja Dove personally created (please, God, may I have a bottle of Roja before I die?). It ends with his thoughts about the future. This book has become a prized possession. Should an emergency arise, I might well be found running from the house with my purse, a sack of fragrances, and The Essence of Perfume. Time permitting, I'll have on shoes. I can't recommend this book more highly.
