About the Author
Rob Brooker (Ph.D., Yale University) received his B.A. in biology at Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio, in 1978. At Harvard, he studied lactose permease, the product of the lacY gene of the lac operon. He continues working on transporters at the University of Minnesota, where he is a Professor in the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development and has an active research laboratory. At the University of Minnesota, Dr. Brooker teaches undergraduate courses in biology, genetics, and cell biology. In addition to many other publications, he has written two undergraduate genetics texts published by McGraw-Hill: Genetics: Analysis & Principles, 4th edition, copyright 2012, and Concepts of Genetics, copyright 2012.

A great rental. A fantastic textbook for Genetics

This was the textbook my professor used to instruct Genetics.
Overall, I would rate this book 5/5. The author does a very good job at describing the details of genetics, and trust me there is a LOT of details, while at the same time summarizing the key take away with figures, diagrams, and tables. The diagrams that supplement the text ensure the reader understands what they are reading with beautiful illustrations. The information is organized very well, and the material is presented in a very friendly manner to students. With that said, this is genetics we are talking about, which is no cake walk. This is a class that requires some background information in general biology and chemistry to fully appreciate and comprehend. But the author does a fantastic job at teaching you what you need to know. Definitely one of the best textbooks that I have read on such a complex topic.

Concepts are fully explained in a language to be understood. There are concept checks at the end of each section of a chapter and a review at the end of each chapter. Review questions allow the student to apply all that has been presented. I do suggest getting the companion Student Study Guide/Solutions Manual for extra practice.
